History

Founded in 1979 along with the newest of Switzerland's 26 cantons. Serves a mainly French-speaking region in north-west Switzerland (the canton of Jura, capital: Delémont, Delsberg in German, 30 km south-west of Basel). Liabilities covered by cantonal guarantee. Rescued by recapitalisation in 1997.
