History |
Founded in
1963 by private Swiss investor. ENI of Italy bought 70%
in 1966 and sold it to UBS in 1974.
Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI)
acquired 85% in 1976, reducing the UBS stake
to 15%. (BCCI was closed by regulators in 1991 for
engaging in fraud and money laundering). Çukurova Group
acquired 85% and UBS stake cut to 5.5% in 1991. Çukurova bought out minority shareholders in 1996 and
provided Sfr20 million cash injection. Focuses on trade finance and private banking. Most private clients from southern Europe and
Mediterranean region. Opened Istanbul office in 1996. |
