Leading banks - Notes

1. These tables show figures for some of the largest asset management banks in Switzerland. Some only disclose limited information so do not appear in all tables.

2. The figures are rounded, year-end totals in million Swiss francs, unless indicated otherwise.

3. Table 1 includes double counting, which usually refers to double counting of the bank's in-house investment funds. Table 2 excludes double counting.

4. Clariden Leu was established on January 1, 2007, through the merger of four banks and an asset management company. Our figures for its fiduciary deposits represent the combined totals of the predecessor companies.

5. Credit Suisse stopped reporting fiduciary transactions in 2004. In 2003, they amounted to CHF31,463 million or 2.9% of assets under management.

6. Some banks manage money for both private clients and institutional clients (such as pension funds). As a result, their total assets under management can't be directly compared with those of banks which only cater to private clients. To address this problem, we include a table showing private client assets at larger banks.

7. Julius Baer reported "private banking" client assets of CHF138 billion in 2006. But, in its annual report, Baer said its client assets included CHF183 billion held for private clients served directly by Baer and its GAM asset management unit and CHF118 billion held for mainly private clients advised by third parties.

8. We include LGT Group, LLB and VP Bank, although they are based in Liechtenstein.
